This project helps single mothers live independently by allowing them to become vendors of the traditional Taiwanese sweet potatoes. Support the mamas by helping them sell the sweet potatoes and get to know them as they teach you how to roast sweet potatoes

Live as a local tours are our way of building local experience into your time in Taiwan. What we do on our wildly popular “Live as a Local” trips is help to foster a sense of community among our guests and local Taiwanese in the various destinations we experience together. It is our deeply held philosophy that this type of interpersonal interaction is one of the most powerful ways to help our guests enjoy their time here.
Sweet potato symbolizes an important part of Taiwanese food tradition, and every Taiwanese must have tasted it some time before. Therefore, the founder of Genesis Social Welfare Foundation wishes to help single mothers to make a living independently on their own. Pushing a portable traditional oven that is shaped like a big drum, the mamas work almost everyday to support their family.
Now you can support the mamas by joining the project and understand more about their lives. And you'll surely have a chance to learn how to roast sweet potatoes!

Meet Her Royal Highness: Yehliu National Geo Park
Yehliu lies in one of the most remarkable geological coastal areas in northern Taiwan, and is well-known for its rocky promontory overlooking the bay. Winds and waves shape the environment and make the scenic view magnificent. Local people have taken pleasure in naming the large rocks which dot the landscape after shapes which they resemble. When you see the “Queen’s Head” rock, you’ll feel like you’re in the presence of royalty.
The Golden Waterfall: Flowing Treasure
Although there is no actual gold flowing forth from these falls, the name reflects their appearance: the combination of regular rainfall in this mining area radiate a gold-like color.
Jiufen & Its Nostalgic Old Street
Jiufen, once a prosperous gold rush town before the 1970s, straddles the Pacific Ocean and is perfectly situated up in the hills. The most memorable part of being in Jiufen, without a doubt, is the long and narrow street market which stretches throughout the entire town. The streets are dotted with various shops for handicrafts, food, tea, snacks, toys and traditional souvenirs. Be sure to try some of the local foods, such as sweet taro balls, rice cakes and grilled squid…one bite and guaranteed you will be hooked!
Let’s Make a Wish – Sky Lantern
Make a wish, write it on the lantern and let it fly. The sky lantern festival has long been used for people to pray for their wishes. During the Lantern Festival, around February and March each year, lanterns cover the entire sky of Pingxi. If you’re an artist, writer, or photographer, we highly recommend you see this festival for yourself.
