Explore the history, traditions, and modern-day life of Taipei on an 8-hour tour with your own private guide. Spend the morning on the western side of Taipei, then discover the multicultural Ximending district in the afternoon. Visit highlights such as Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Nanmen Market, Longshan Temple, Tianhou Temple, and Ximen Red House. You'll travel by MRT and on foot for a more intimate experience of the Taiwanese capital, and finish off your day with an included hot pot dinner.
In the morning, make your own way to the MRT Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station to meet your guide.
Start your walking tour by following your guide across the plaza to view the massive Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, a monument to the first President of the Republic of China. Watch the changing of the guard and hear about Chiang Kai-Shek’s life and his contributions to Taiwan.
Next, stroll over to the nearby Nanmen Market, one of the oldest public traditional markets in Taipei. Take in the range of fresh and prepared foods at the market, and try samples of specialties made by different vendors.
Have lunch at the market (own expense); your guide can explain the food options and offer recommendations. After eating, hop on the metro to go to Longshan Temple, the most famous temple in Taipei. There, learn about temple architecture, and Buddhist and Taoist religious traditions in China.
Continue by metro to Ximen Station where you explore the cultural diversity of the Ximending district, where the youth of Taiwan come to see and be seen. Stop into the 270-year-old Tianhou Temple, which is dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu. Then meander along Japanese Street, America Street, and Movie Street, and browse the artist boutiques at the Red House, a historical red brick building that serves as a cultural center for live performance and art exhibitions.
Top off your walking tour with dinner at an all-you-can-eat hot pot restaurant. Afterward, your guide accompanies you to MRT Ximen Station where you can make your way to your next destination.
