Traditional Hand Puppet is originated in Fujian, a province of China during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. In the 50s, in order to attract more audience, the puppeteers in Taiwan decided to create the size of the puppets and add modern music, lights and special effects in the performance. It's called Golden Light Puppet. TV Hand Puppet is a new style of puppetry started to appear on TV since 70s. The puppets are bigger, more gorgeous and more delicate. It has become very popular among the young generation in Taiwan.

Story Line: The Mayor and the Lion.
Scene 1: A funny mayor greets the audience
Scene 2: Two boys perform Chinese kungfu
Scene 3: The lion strolls around, sleeps, tumbles, greets and then loses its temper.

Arrive early to watch the performers do their makeup and put on costumes.

In the evening, make your own way to TaipeiEYE to watch a spectacular 90-minute show, which may include Chinese opera or other theater arts such as Taiwanese aboriginal dance and music, folklore, martial arts or puppetry. (See the Itinerary section for show descriptions).

TaipeiEYE is located in the old cultural center of Taipei on a boulevard lined with trees. The walls of the elegant venue are decorated with traditional masks, puppets and other intricate artifacts. The entire experience makes for a memorable evening in Taipei.

  • Due to the effect of volcanic activities, Yangmingshan National Park features awl-shaped volcanoes, caldera lakes, solfataras, geothermal, and hot springs. Every February and March, the blossom season attracts crowds of visitors. There will be around 1,600 cherry trees. In addition, all kinds of plants and flowers bloom. If the Calla Lily season comes, you can also visit the gardens of Calla Lilies in Jhuzihu or even experience plucking Calla Lilies by yourselves.
  • Because of its unique architecture and culture, Xingtian Temple attracts countless visitors. Different food stands gather around there, including handcart oil rice/ green bean noodles/noodles. Sticky tofu, pig blood soup, and tempuras are all highly recommended, which are definitely worth a try.
  • The biggest difference between normal theater and TaipeiEYE is the interaction between performers and audiences before and after the show, or even during the intermission. You can appreciate this interaction in the open make-up rooms and the photo areas.
  • To overcome the language barrier, all performances concerning spoken language will include Chinese, Japanese, English, and Korean subtitles. There are also staffs that are proficient in four different languages. They will help you if you need it.
