Enjoy a seven-day tour of Taiwan's tea farms to learn the traditions, tastes, and cultivation techniques of Taiwanese tea. You'll be immersed in the most beautiful tea plantations, tasting fine oolong and Oriental Beauty tea varieties.

Day 1 – Taipei

  • Fly into Taipei and transfer to your hotel.
  • We’ll experience a tea ceremony, led by a local tea master and featuring a selection of Taiwan's finest teas. Enjoy dinner - with some excellent local tea, of course.
Day 2 – Hualien
  • Early morning departure for a four-hour drive to Hualien. Stops along the way at the hot & cold springs park in Jiaoxi in Yilan County. Optional stops at Kavalan Whiskey distillery.
  • After we’ve set you up in your hotel and you’ve taken a rest, we can look around this lively city of 100,000 people.
Day 3 – Ruisui District
  • Basing ourselves in Hualien, today we’ll drive to Ruisui for scenery and, naturally, more tea. The district is famous for its hot springs; if you want to soak, bring your swimsuit. Along the way, we can make a stop at Danongdafu Forest Park, a former sugar plantation that’s been turned into a sprawling recreational woodland.
Day 4 – Sun Moon Lake
  • From Hualien, we’ll start on a fabulous scenic drive through the mountains. The road crests at two miles above sea level, but before then we’ll likely halt for a cup of hot ginger tea at Bilu Sacred Tree.
  • We’ll make regular stops so you can photograph the gorgeous panoramas, then descend toward one of Taiwan’s most famous attractions, Sun Moon Lake. You’ll arrive in time to see the lake (by private boat, if you let us know in advance) and take a short rest in your hotel before dinner.
Day 5 – Tea Plantations
  • Among the lakeside attractions we’ll visit are Cien Pagoda and a pair of temples.
  • After lunch, you can stretch your legs at the nearby Antique Assam Tea Farm, a restored Japanese-era tea plantation which is as educational as it is scenic. It’ll then be time to say goodbye to the lake and head to the oolong-growing part of the mountainous Alishan region.
Day 6 – Tea Plantations
  • We’ll have the entire day to explore the Greater Alishan region, visit tea plantations, meet farmers and try their teas. The scenery throughout is wonderful; if you’d like to go for a hike, we’ll show you a trail that matches your physical condition.
  • We can go for a gentle stroll through the forests around Fenqihu.
Day 7 – Wrap up
  • Whatever time you fly out, we’ll help you make the very most of your final day in Taiwan. Before putting you on the bullet train at Chiayi HSR Station, we can bring you to the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum, which has a superb permanent exhibition about tea culture, as well as sections devoted to Asian textiles, Buddhist Art and other themes.

Day 1 - Taipei and Safari Theme Park

  • Fly into Taipei and head to the Leofoo Safari Park.
  • Optional stop is the old town of Daxi, where the streets are lined with gorgeous prewar Baroque-style merchants’ houses.

Day 2 - Leefoo Theme Park and Taipei

  • After breakfast in the resort, you’ll have as much time as you like to enjoy the entire theme park. If you opt to leave before lunch there are various options for a meal en route to Taipei.
  • We’ll transfer you to your hotel for an afternoon rest, then meet up for dinner. After that, any activities will be tailored to your interests and energy levels. If you like bustle and colour, to finish up the evening we can take you to a local night market, where tasty snack foods are sold by outdoors vendors.

Day 3 - Taipei Zoo and Taipei 101

  • After breakfast in your hotel, we’ll head off to the southern part of the capital for a look at Taipei Zoo. There we can see some of Taiwan’s best-known animals, including Formosan black bears and pangolins, as well as non-local species like a pair of pandas. From the zoo we can ride the Maokong Gondola, a cable car that carries tourists up to the tea-growing closest to central Taipei.
  • Late afternoon is the best time to go up to the observatory at Taipei 101 for sunset views over the city and beyond. There’s no need to leave the building for dinner: The world’s second-tallest skyscraper has its own branch of Din Tai Fung, the rightfully world-famous dumplings restaurant, and several other eating options.

Day 4 - Tamsui Northern Coast

  • Off to the seaside! Today we’ll take a look at Taiwan’s rugged north coast via Tamsui. A fun thing to do while in Tamsui is take the ferry across the estuary to Bali, an even smaller town but a good place to see crabs and mudskippers.
  • After Tamsui and Bali, we can enjoy seafood at nearby Fuji Fishing Harbour, splash in the water at the beach called Baishawan (‘white sand bay’) or continue northeast along the coast, stopping wherever you want to take in the view or stretch your legs. Visiting a family-friendly hot spring is another option, as both Jinshan on the north coast and Yangmingshan National Park are riddled with places where naturally-heated mineral water rises to the surface.

Day 5 -  Wrap Up

  • Whatever time your flight out, we’ll help you make the very most of your final day in Taiwan. If you have shopping needs, we’ll guide you to the right part of the city to fulfill them. If you think the kids need to burn off some energy before getting on the plane, we can bring everyone to a park, a short hiking trail or - if the weather isn’t so great - a mall.

Enjoy a five-day tour of Taiwan's tea farms to learn the traditions, tastes, and cultivation techniques of Taiwanese tea. You'll be immersed in the most beautiful tea plantations, tasting fine oolong and Oriental Beauty tea varieties.

Day 1 – Taipei City

  • Fly into Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport near Taipei. By the time you’ve transferred to your hotel in the capital, we’ll have finalized a plan for the rest of the day that matches your interests and energy levels.
  • We’ll experience a tea ceremony, led by a local tea master and featuring a selection of Taiwan's finest teas. Alternatively, we may take the Maokong Gondola up to the tea plantations in the southwestern part of the capital, and have dinner - with some excellent local tea, of course.
Day 2 – Hsinchu and Miaoli
  • After a morning visit to one of Taipei’s famous tea sellers, today we’ll be driving into the Hakka heartlands of Hsinchu and Miaoli. This is where Taiwan’s oriental beauty tea is grown. We’ll try local green, oolong and oriental beauty teas, and take a look at the pre-World War II tea-processing equipment preserved inside.
  • Dinner will include Hakka delicacies. In the past, many Hakka dishes were regarded as oily and salty; in line with the modern preference for healthy fare, innovative chefs have updated the cuisine, while retaining its characteristic pork and pickle flavors.
Day 3 – Lugu Tea District
  • Heading south again, we’ll make a lengthy stop in the tea-growing district of Lugu, to immerse ourselves in one of Taiwan’s most beautiful bamboo forests, and lunch on bamboo, mountain chicken, and vegetables grown locally. We will, of course, sample some of the fine oolong teas that have won a global reputation.
  • Dinner will be near your accommodation at Shizhuo, 1,000 m or so above sea level and another famous tea-growing area. We recommend a local speciality: chicken basted in tea oil.
Day 4 – Tea Plantations and National Forest
  • We’ll have the entire day to explore the Greater Alishan region, visit tea plantations, meet farmers and try their teas. The scenery throughout is wonderful; if you’d like to go for a hike, we’ll show you a trail that matches your physical condition.
  • We can go for a gentle stroll through the forests, take a look at Dinghu, a tea-growing village even higher than Shizhuo, or meet a lady who gathers wild coffee in the indigenous village of Laiji.
