Escape the hustle of Taipei for a day and discover the spectacular beauty of the nearby countryside. Experience stunning waterfalls, fly your own sky lantern, and enjoy a delicious taro dessert in a mountain top cafe. All this and more is possible on this private tour just for you.

The stunning waterfalls and areas of outstanding natural beauty at Pingxi, Shifen and Juifen are must-see highlights for any Taipei traveler. On this private tour you can enjoy them all, plus you can experience some off-the-beaten-track delights that only locals know about. Like the abandoned mines and deserted railway stations, places that Mother Nature is quietly reclaiming. Follow the sound of a whistling kettle to an old miners’ cafe where water for tea has boiled non-stop for 60 years. This is an area of dazzling beauty and awesome history.

Your private host can guide you to the famous waterfalls and also show you the surprises that lie beyond. Surprises that could never be found in a tourist guide book. Take a drive through the mountains, a hike up a hidden waterfall, and a stroll across a 128 meter suspension bridge.

But let’s get back to the stunning falls. As you approach Shifen Waterfall you’ll hear the thunder of the gushing river before you see the giant unbroken sheet of white water crashing onto the rocks below. On sunny days, the mists create rainbows in the blue skies.

At the Golden Waterfall the naturally-occurring heavy metals in the riverbed turn the flowing water into a breathtaking glowing gold color. The contrast of the deep green grass at the waterfall’s head makes a truly magical visual experience. Not surprisingly, this area of natural beauty is a photo favorite among local newly-weds.

After all the natural beauty and history it’s time to top off your tour with a view of the incredibly ornate Ah Mei Tea House. Why wait in line when your local host can guide you to the perfect seat to gaze out on the beautiful coastline? All you need to do is enjoy the view while munching on a delicious local treat: a Taro dessert served with shaved ice.

The local hosts on your private tour have all been carefully selected to share unique insights and personal anecdotes with you! Also, ask as many questions as you want. Take a look at the videos and choose the local you like the most.

Want to adjust your private experience to your preferences? No problem – let your host know what you would like to see or do and your private host will do his/her best to make it happen. Enjoy!

Lovers of satisfying hikes will enjoy a full day hike with beautiful scenery and endless nature. This Qixing Mountain hiking tour climbs the tallest mountain in Taipei. Qixing, means seven stars because from the peak of the mountain you can see the tops of the seven surrounding mountains. You’ll see a variety of wildlife and explore the winding paths. It’s a great day long adventure for explorers of all kind.

First, your guide will meet you and take you by bus to Yangmingshan Station. Yangmingshan is the national park that Qixing Mountain is located in. Once off the bus, you’ll be free to explore the entrance to the park and be immediately greeted by a water fountain and bubbling streams.

As you start your ascent, the trail will be steep so there is fair warning that this train can be tiring but is worth the effort. The natural scenery has to be seen to be believed. The mountainside has both dense forests and grassy fields giving you a variety of scenes to admire. Be prepared to see all kinds of wildlife ranging from colorful lizards to chirping birds.

You might catch a whiff of the Sulphur as Qixing Mountain is a volcano but not an active one. There are natural fumaroles which are pillars of smoke rising from cracks in the mountain. Their presence gives the mountain a smoky yet eerie beauty.

As you arrive at the top of the main peak, you’ll be able to see in all directions and the “seven stars” which are the seven mountain peaks visible from the top. On a clear day, you will see Taipei in the distance and even the ocean. The oddly quiet peak is a great place to rest and enjoy the view as the tour is not over yet. After the main peak, head down the mountain and back up the east peak which has its own unique views.

Having scaled both peaks, you’ll finally come down from the mountain passing Lengshuikeng, a lake created by the volcano many years ago. The chemical makeup gives the water a thick, milky look. Despite the name, this area is home to many hot springs. You’ll pass by rustic, Japanese-style, wooden bathhouses as we return to our bus to head home.
